How to

  1. Log on to borger.dk or virk.dk
    If your car is registered under your CPR number, use borger.dk. If your car is registered under a company CVR number, use virk.dk. You can search for “skrotpræmie” and go to the DUS self-service solution.

    Locate a car breaker on this list.

  2. Search for the vehicle.
    Click Start and have your personal MitID or your company's MitID Erhverv ready. Search for and select the vehicle using its registration number (licence plate), then choose a selected car breaker from the list. Are you exempt from using MitID? If so, please see further down the page.

    Search for the vehicle on borger.dk.

  3. Approve the case.
    Save and approve the scrapping request, then complete the process. You must now wait for the car breaker to accept the request on their side of the digital system.

  4. How should the vehicle be handed over?
    If in doubt, you can contact the car breaker to arrange whether you will deliver the vehicle to the car breaker or have it collected.

  5. Deregister the vehicle.
    Make sure to agree with the car breaker who will take care of deregistering the vehicle. In most cases, the car breaker can handle the deregistration for you as part of the scrapping process.

  6. Certificate of destruction
    Keep an eye on your Digital Post inbox or e-Boks. Once the vehicle has been scrapped, you will receive a Certificate of Destruction through Digital Post or e-Boks. If you are exempt from Digital Post, the certificate will be sent to you by regular mail.

  7. Payment of scrapping premium
    We will pay your scrapping premium of DKK 2,770 to your NemKonto (your official bank account) no later than two weeks after scrapping of the car and reception of your certificate of destruction. The certificate is sent to your digital mailbox, or alternatively as an ordinary letter.

Special circumstances?

If you are not the registered owner of the car in the Danish motor vehicles register you can choose these other types of case when you create a case on your car and apply for the scrapping premium:

Legal owner – You are the (legal) owner of the car, but it is not registered in your name. Generally, no scrapping premium is paid to the legal owner; there must be a match between the registration number of the car and the owner appearing from the Danish motor vehicles register.

Apply for dispensation – You own the car, but it is not registered in your name; you believe to be entitled to receive the scrapping premium. You upload an exemption application demonstrating that the case is special. In our case handling, we decide whether it is possible to pay out the scrapping premium.

Administrator of the estate – You are the administrator of the estate or the heir to a car that is to be scrapped. You upload the letter of administration from the probate court to document ownership; the scrapping premium will be paid out after case handling.

Car scrapped abroad – you are the registered owner of a car that has been scrapped abroad. The foreign certificate of destruction is uploaded to document the case; the scrapping premium will be paid out after case handling.

If you have been exempted from MitID as a citizen, you cannot scrap your car through borger.dk.

Instead, contact an approved car breaker who can create the scrapping case on your behalf.  See list of approved car breakers

Please bring the following documents to the car breaker: 

  • Identity document: Health insurance card or driver’s license (no need for a photo ID).
  • Form for exemption from digital mail can be requested from the local authority (contact Borgerservice/Citizen’s service)
  • Registration certificate of vehicle
  • Sign a statutory declaration at the car breaker’s premises. Download the statutory declaration here.
Please note that manual processing takes approximately 14 days.

 

If payment of scrapping premium has been refused, you can file a complaint to the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, who is the appeal body; this must be done no later than four weeks after having received the refusal.

This is done by sending an email to bilskrot@mst.dk. In your email, please state the registration number of the car and motivate why you find that you are entitled to receive the scrapping premium.

Your scrapping premium is paid to your NemKonto (your official bank account) no later than two weeks after reception of your certificate of destruction.

If you have not received the money, please send an email to info@producentansvar.dk, stating registration number of the car, and registration and account number of your bank. If you have a NemKonto, please state this account number.
